Amber has over 19 years experience in both private and public Montessori education.
As a parent, teacher, and advocate, Amber's passion is in developing classroom interventions for neurodiverse students and making Montessori accessible to all students.
Parent education is another love. Amber works with families to help them to understand Montessori and how to translate it into the home setting.
Carey decided to leave the T&D corporate world to become a Montessorian because of what she learned as a Montessori parent. This journey started 20 years ago.
In the Montessori community, Carey has worn many hats, but advocating for neurodiverse children is near and dear to her heart.
Continuing her education through the North Carolina Department of Public Education Exceptional Children's Division (NCDPI EC) division to learn about how to help students, teachers, and families about Dyslexia, Dysgraphia and ADHD has been an ongoing journey. Carey enjoys connecting the evidence based research to the Montessori curriculum. She looks forward to continuing this work within the community.
Amber and Carey first met more than 20 years ago while enrolled in a Montessori teacher education program. At the time, they were teaching at different schools—Amber at a private Montessori school and Carey at a public Montessori program. A few years later, they both attended St. Catherine University to earn their Master’s degrees in Montessori Education.
For 11 years, they taught together at a public Montessori school in Charlotte, North Carolina. In 2014, they began advocating for public Montessori education. At the start of the pandemic, they collaborated with a team to develop an online version of the Montessori curriculum.
Later, Amber and Carey joined a district alignment team that created a playbook for public Montessori schools in Charlotte. This document helped educate district leaders about the Montessori curriculum and how it aligns with state standards, while also providing guidance to ensure continuity across public Montessori programs.
Together, they have developed academic and behavioral interventions and accommodations that fit within the MTSS framework while honoring Montessori philosophy. Their goal is to share the knowledge and skills they have gained through their experiences as public Montessori educators.
